I was given a copy of this book, based on my interest in similar books, and I was excited to read and review it. I finished it two weeks ago.At first, I would have given the book 3 stars. The authors tend to exaggerate the dangers of social media and technology use to the point of fear-mongering. That put me off.
I also thought the 10-Minute title was misleading. There are a lot of activities presented in this book, and they take a lot more than 10 minutes. I was overwhelmed when first reading it. Making all the changes presented might take months, honestly, and I'm not committed to that.
However, two weeks later, I have taken several of the suggestions in this book. I whittled down my email subscriptions to a few choice items. I set better time limits on checking in online. I removed a few social media apps from my phone. And I plan to revamp my computer storage to a system similar to what's presented here, but more fitting to my own use.
Being able to visualize exactly what I want to do with my online time has helped me not get sucked in quite so much. And I am finding that I have a lot of time in the day to do things I want to do without the constant need for input. There's a study presented in here about rats pulling a lever for rewards. I've since adopted it for myself. I now ask, "Am I just pulling the lever here, hoping for some random reward?"
Because I found so many of the suggestions helpful, I'm bumping this up to four stars.
If you feel like you are spending too much time managing online "stuff" or interactions, you might enjoy the tips in this book. Just beware all the anti-technology language.

10Minute Digital Declutter The Simple Habit to Eliminate Technology Overload (Audible Audio Edition) S J Scott Barrie Davenport Greg Zarcone SJ Scott Books Reviews
A few gems about computer-specific decluttering and organizing tactics. I especially like the discussion of back-up strategies. Book is mostly practical advice, which most almost-organized people will recognize. For me, this book also provides good talking points with my husband, who is a confirmed clutter-bug. And, as with most things in life, you can lead a clutter-bug to a book, but you can't make the process work if they fail to buy-in.
WOW! What a lot of great info and help aides to know how to declutter your electronic devices including one's Computer(s(,iPhones , smartphones, etc. For all of the good advice and suggestions I feel like this needs five stars and would highly recommend this for anyone who has felt overwhelmed with all our high class devices we have now adays! Young and old alike. I received this ebook for free and in return have left an honest and hopefully helpful review for others looking for help! Great job S.J. Scott &Barrie! By Angela
I was finding myself overwhelmed with my emails and was looking for help and came across your book. And thought if I could take ten minutes a day to declutter it wouldn't be so overwhelming to me. Which is what the title is referring to. It only took me a couple of days to read the book and I started applying the process to my business email and I can already see a difference in when my mail comes in I put it in a folder and go on with my task at hand. Thanks I will be rereading the book to see what I missed and add to what I have already started.
If you are in a hurry, jump ahead to PART III Getting Started With Digital Decluttering. The step-by-step approach is what I like. The email decluttering section is something I needed years ago. Appreciate straight-forward writing without the fluff because most of us are busy ... because we haven't decluttered yet )
I purchased the book because I was running out of space on my hard drive. I learned that most of what was causing the storage problem I had not read or used in awhile. I had to make the decision is "Why am I keeping them". I am not and I believe my computer will speed up and gain space. What I needed was the motivation to do it.
Loaded with actionable information. It wasn't until section 6 that I began to see the theory move into the "doing sections." For me digital declutter means deleting files, or avoiding collection and having an efficient method of doing it both in time and practice every week.
I was actually looking for more links to "free" tools to deleting stuff and minimizing time to remove duplicate files. For example a tool to find duplicates on multiple devices. I don't think one exists today and the ones that are close to it have a subscription license model that I am not interested in. The ebook didn't have that information in it.
I did notice that the TOC was not working in Cloud reader for the ebook version I read.
I liked the screenshot of Steve's desktop with the Halloween avatar/background. It was a good example of living a decluttered digital life.
I will definitely recommend this book to my network.
The 10 Minute Digital Declutter is an amazing book if you’re anything like me (or not like me, this could help everyone-including people drowning in social media). Clutter happens. Digital clutter is more nefarious than the in real life clutter we collect on a daily basis that we can see. Where as you can see when our purse or wallet is too full or you have too many clothes in your closet, digital clutter stays hidden. We can get overwhelmed with all of our social media accounts, especially if we have both professional and personal accounts.
What brought me to this book was simple my emails, my bookmarks and my computer files were just a mess. My download file was out of control, it became a computer junk drawer. I would look at all the files and quickly close the folder because it was so filled with everything and anything that it was incredibly stressful. Then my email accounts had hundreds and hundreds of emails in them. It all made me feel like it was out of control and completely unmanageable, but then I found this book.
What I liked about this book is it wasn’t ordering me to do everything at once and do it now now now! Ten minutes a day. That’s it. Knowing I only had to do this clean up project for only ten minutes really motivated me to do it. The book gives you a manageable game plan to organize your digital life. I highly recommend this book for people who feel they are not digitally organized.
