Wow, such an important historic presence about which we have known so little here outside Germany. His adventures, discoveries, observations, analyses and courage, not to mention his persistent energy and determined hard work really floored me. He was a friend to most of he significant thinkers of his era and deeply inspired many of the greats of the generations to follow. After finishing this book, I at once downloaded the free edition of his complete works. That should keep me fascinated for several years, read intermittently. If you care about biology, the history of science and the people who helped make our reality, you really want to know Humboldt.
Assiduous records of one of the world's greatest and most energetic minds ever- he travelled from jungle to mountain in SA and Central America, to visit with Thomas Jefferson in NA, all over Europe and to Russia. Just the beginning...

As expected about the life of one of the most brilliant naturalists and scientists in history. In his fields of research, he is comparable to Newton in physics and mathematics, Darwin and Wallace in biology and evolution, Einstein in physics, Alan Turing in computer science and AI, plus many of the world's scientific geniuses. Shows clearly that the truth is in science, not in religions. The investigative work and writing by the author is one of the best I've ever experienced.

Nice book about an Interesting person. He was amazing
WOW. What a history lesson. My bookclub talked and hoped that our high school students would all read this true history.
